The river has a remarkable natural reproduction. However, since 2006, the river authorities have in addition to making the area an exclusive fly fishing zone, introduced some measures to further enhance and protect the quality of the fishing:
Maximum amounts of rods (licenses sold per day) in the zone at the same time.
Bag limit - only one fish can be caught and killed per rod per day.
Minimum size 35 cm.
Maximum size 40 cm.
Only barbless hooks can be used in the zone.
As of this year the authorities have introduced a maximum size limit – to make sure that the big reproductive fish remain in the river. This exclusive 9 kilometer stretch is regulated for fly-fishing only.
The river-landscape is varied and interesting with a multitude of islands, creating an almost delta like appearance in some places. It has lots of soft rapids with some quiet areas and pools. The structure of the river bottom makes manoeuvring around on foot easy. All in all this is among the very best the river Glomma can offer the fly-fishing enthusiast.
The season starts from the 15th of May and lasts until the 15th of October.
I should be mentioned that all this has been done in close collaboration with dutch flyfisherman Hein Van Aar, who has been instrumental in getting the project established. Hein is now our riverkeeper and is running the affairs from his location at Kvennan Camping.
